Ferrer Rewrites Blog After Bloomberg Cries Foul
Democratic hopeful wrong about his schooling
by Andrew Kirtzman
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
It was Howard Dean to the rescue. With yet another new poll showing Fernando Ferrer getting trounced by Mayor Bloomberg, the Democratic Chairman came to show the party's behind him.
Ferrer needed a friend. Earlier, the Bloomberg camp caught an embarrassing error on his campaign blog. In a September 5th entry, Ferrer writes "I was born in the South Bronx and educated in public schools for most of my education."
In fact, Ferrer attended Catholic Schools through 12th grade and then went to NYU.
Tuesday afternoon, his campaign removed the line and apologized. A spokesman blamed an unnamed staffer for crafting it, based on Ferrer's dictation.
A new poll today showed Mayor Bloomberg beating Ferrer 53 to 38. Ominously for the Democrat, black voters are supporting Bloomberg 50 to 42. Ferrer is counting heavily on the black vote this fall.
Earlier, in Queens, the Democrats tried to make life uncomfortable for Mayor Bloomberg. He was once again greeted by a George Bush impersonator, trying to link the mayor to the Republican president.
