It's Official: Madonna, Ritchie Getting Divorced

NEW YORK (CBS) ― It's official.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie have confirmed that they're calling it quits, as it seems that their marriage was never quite able to compete with their careers.

Almost from the beginning, they denied rumors there was trouble in paradise.

"We'd love to spend more time with each other," Madonna said.

"It is an issue, it is an issue, yes," Ritchie said.

But now the issue is divorce. Madonna and British filmmaker Guy Ritchie have confirmed their marriage is over.

"I think in the last three weeks in particular, they have had so many arguments that it has just come to a stage where they have decided to finish with the pretense," Gordon Smart, showbiz editor for The Sun, said.

They've reportedly been at odds over their competing careers and Madonna's desire to adopt another child. Her headline-grabbing friendship with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez didn't help.

It was at Madonna's New York City apartment that the singer and the slugger reportedly spent time together this summer. On Wednesday, the paparazzi camped out for a glimpse of the material girl.

The closest they got was the window of her SUV as she headed out for a gig in Boston.

"They are obviously two people used to doing and getting things their own way," public relations agent Max Clifford said. "That's always going to be difficult."

What could also be difficult: dividing up their half billion-dollar fortune, most of which comes from Madonna.

And deciding who gets custody of their children.

Madonna once told the New York Times that one difference between her and Ritchie was: she sees the glass half full and he sees it half empty.

After almost 8 years of marriage, they'll now have to do without their better halves.

Despite having no prenuptial agreement in place, Madonna and Ritchie are hoping for a quick split. They're reportedly aiming to have their divorce finalized before the end of the year.
