Magician Chews Carton Of Lit Cigarettes
ELMHURST, N.Y. (CBS) ―
Some smokers go on a puffing binge before quitting cold turkey, but this one decided to eat the last of his cigarettes.
Scarsdale magician Richie Magic says he'll never smoke again after his attempt Saturday to break the world record for "orally extinguishing, chewing and expelling" a carton of cigarettes. Magic says he broke the record by chewing up 200 cigarettes in 6 minutes, 3.7 seconds.
The 53-year-old smoked for decades even before changing his name to match his second career. He says he's thrilled with the reaction of children who came to see the stunt at Rogue Magic and Fun Shop in Elmhurst.
"Kids told me it was so disgusting that they'd never smoke," he said.
The Funshop started out as a backpack filled with trick decks, magical gimmicks, and videos. Rogue then operated out of his apartment for few years before setting up shop in a corner of a bookstore, then ultimately getting his own store.
