Police are investigating the killing of a New York City fire marshal who was found shot to death at his Staten Island home.
Police say Douglas Mercereau's death was ruled a homicide by the city medical examiner Monday.
They say the 38-year-old's body was found at his home in the Oakwood section at about 8:25 a.m. the day before. He had been shot three times in the head.
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta called the supervising fire marshal a "rising star within the FDNY's Bureau of Fire Investigation."
Mercereau joined the FDNY more than 12 years ago.
