United Flights Restored After Computer Glitch
System Restored, But Massive Delays Remain

A massive computer error has forced all United Airlines flights to be halted.

A massive computer failure at United Airlines halted all flights systemwide earlier this morning. The reason for the failure is unknown, however, United reports that its systems were restored but long delays will remain as planes get up and running again.
New York City area airports served by United are also experiencing delays because of the earlier outage.
United's Web site has no specific information, but a check of flights departing for New York at 9 a.m. are showing delays.
At Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, flights were sitting on the tarmac for several hours.
One passenger, who identified himself as John Jones, emailed the CBS station in Chicago to report that the captain of Flight 105 from Chicago to Los Angeles annouced that United had tried and failed to start their computer system.
The flight is sitting on the tarmac and it is unclear when it will take off.
CBS 2 HD's sister station in San Francisco, KPIX-TV says the duty manager at the San Francisco airport says United's computer that deals with "weight and balance" in regards to fuel and passenger load crashed.
United had six flights sitting on the tarmacs at San Francisco International Airport.
KCNC-TV in Denver says they been told by United that they are having computer problems. WBBM Radio in Chicago is reporting that the computer malfunction is only affecting departing flights.
Chicago, Denver and San Francisco are large United hubs as is Washington, D.C.
