McGreevey Administration E-Mails Deleted

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ― E-mails sent and received by top officials in the McGreevey administration are deleted from state computers. That's despite regulations dictating electronic records must be reviewed and archived.

The Star-Ledger of Newark on Monday reported the e-mail deletions were disclosed in a letter the state Attorney General's Office wrote in response to a lawsuit against former members of the McGreevey administration.

The revelation comes five years after state archives officials first became suspicious Gov. James E. McGreevey's office was erasing computerized documents.

McGreevey was elected in 2001 and resigned in 2004 after announcing he was gay and had an affair with a male staffer.
