Ex-con Michael Vick is an NFL quarterback again, all remorseful in his coming-out appearance in Philadelphia. He signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He sat out for the past two seasons while serving time for running a dog-fighting ring. Fans at Friday's pre-season opener in New Jersey were split over having him back in the game.
"I've done some terrible things, now I want to be part of the solution, not the problem," he said. "I'm just glad I got the opportunity and second chance."
Vick cratered his career three seasons ago by running a brutal dog-fighting ring out his house in Virginia. He did 18 months in federal prison.
Fans at Friday's pre-season opener in New Jersey were split over having him back in the game.
"I'm glad he's with the Eagles. I hate the Eagles," said Rebecca Rubin.
"I'm glad he's not here. Philly can have him," said Severio Minervini.
"I think what he did is completely heinous, but you can't crucify someone forever," said Michael Merlino.
"No, no. Not good enough...cause he'll do it again," said Laura Newman and Mary Winters.
The disgraced quarterback is already working with the humane society to combat animal cruelty and has lost an estimate $100 million in salary he would've gotten from the Atlanta Falcons. In an interview to air Sunday on 60 minutes he says he still has what it takes to play on Sundays in the fall.
"I still run as fast, throw the ball just a far as I did before I left, still have the same quickness," Vick said. "I train now as I've never trained before."
"Everybody deserves a second chance and Philly's going to be dangerous with him this year," said Calvin Anderson, Jets fan.
Vick isn't allowed to play in the regular season until October, but is being allowed to play the final two Philly exhibition games which means he'll be here at the Meadowlands September 3rd.
