Vollaro: Man Behind Largest Mob Bust In History

FBI Informant Flees NYC, Leaving Behind Pregnant Wife

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A mob associate who turned federal witness has skipped town leaving behind his pregnant wifTe. In an exclusive interview, CBS 2's Ti-Hua Chang talked to one of the dozens of alleged mobsters arrested because of the woman's husband.

The arrest of 62 alleged Gambino mobsters on Thursday was called one of the biggest in FBI history. Key to the busts was Joseph Vollaro, who wore a recording device for the FBI to avoid jail after he was caught with a kilogram of cocaine three years ago.

Vollaro owned a dump truck firm, and lived in the Pleasant Point section of Staten Island, a big white house with a big 'V' on the garden gate. Acquaintances believe Vollaro has left behind his pregnant wife Trisha, and gone into the witness protection program. We tried to talk to her, but she got upset and sent two large dogs to the front door.

Trisha Vollaro may be afraid because of the sentiment expressed by one of the alleged mobsters arrested by the FBI.

"Her f**king husband is a rat bas****," one suspected mobster said Thursday.

The man, who spoke to CBS 2 HD under the condition of anonymity claims Vollaro made money from those arrested as alleged mobsters and then robbed them.

"He robbed everybody...he never paid anyone."

But mobsters traditionally do not harm family meaning Trisha.

"Nobody will bother her," added the suspected moster.

Vollaro reportedly sold his cement company for $1.6 million before disappearing two weeks ago.
