Reputed Gambino Consigliere Gets 46 Months
NEW YORK (AP) ―
The Gambino crime family's reputed consigliere may use his upcoming prison time to pursue a new interest: computers.
Joseph "Jo Jo" Corozzo was sentenced in a Brooklyn federal court Friday to 46 months behind bars for shaking down a cement company owner. Corozzo pleaded guilty to extortion in June.
The 67-year-old said he was interested in computers, and District Judge Jack Weinstein recommended he have access to computer classes in prison.
Corozzo was one of 62 accused Gambino associates arrested in February in a sprawling case targeting the once-powerful crime clan. Consigliere means top adviser.
Corozzo's friends and relatives described his charitable works in letters to the court. Prosecutor Joey Lipton said "there is good to him, but (the letters) don't show there is bad."
