Prosecutor: NJ Mom Apparently Stabbed Young Son
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBS) ―
A mother apparently stabbed her 9-year-old son at their northern New Jersey home Saturday and then slashed her own throat, authorities said.
Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said it was not immediately clear what sparked the incident at the Bergenfield home, which occurred shortly after 10 a.m.
Molinelli said the boy -- who was stabbed in the abdomen -- and his mother were both taken to a nearby hospital with wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
Further details were not immediately available, including what type of weapon was used in the incident.
Neighbors say the woman is a married mother of three, but her husband and her other two children apparently were not home at the time of the incident.
Molinelli, as Bergen County's prosecutor, is obligated "to use all reasonable and lawful diligence for the detection, arrest, indictment and conviction of offenders against the laws."
