Once again, the MTA is talking fare hike and this time it's monthly Metrocard riders that could be hit the hardest.

On the eve of the fare hike vote, the proposed bill of rights spells out what two City Councilmembers, De Blasio and Liu, think every New York City subway rider should be entitled to.
These include regular on-time service, clean and safe platforms, working public address systems, real-time notification of service changes, and advisories with accurate info on alternative ways of getting around when service is interrupted.
This proposed bill of rights comes just as the MTA is announcing a series of subway and bus improvements... like shaving two minutes of waiting time in the evenings on the 1,4 and 6 lines, extending the B and W lines until 11 pm and increasing service on the G train.
The MTA also wants to create a new bus line, the M13 from the lower East Side to East Midtown and wants to extend the B71 and the B77 from Brooklyn into Manhattan.
The MTA is expected to approve hikes Wednesday, which maintain $2 fares but hike unlimited monthly metrocards by $5 dollars to $81, and most Metro-North and LIRR train fares by about 4 percent.
