Newark Murder-Free Stretch Ends
NEWARK (AP) ―
A six week stretch without a single homicide in Newark has come to an end.
A man, identified was shot fatally in the head in front of a bodega in the South Ward Tuesday night.
Police say they don't have a motive or a suspect.
Brenda Thomas tells The New York Times that the victim is her son, 20-year-old Andre Thomas.
It was the first homicide in the city in 43 days. That murder-free stretch was the longest in the city in decades.
Last year, New Jersey's largest city had 13 killing between January first and February 26th. This year, it was just three.
