MTA Eyes Security Cameras In Subway Cars
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ―
New York City subway cars could soon get cameras.
The MTA has asked two of the companies that make the trains to come up with designs for digital security cameras for the cars. Senior vice president for subways Michael Lombardi said the MTA has asked Kawasaki and Alstom to propose ways add the cameras.
He said they would have to be tested to see if they could withstand the sometimes bouncy, jarring and dusty conditions of the subway system.
The cameras could be used in criminal investigations. The authority has already installed cameras in commuter rail and subway stations. There is also a proposal to install cameras in city buses.
