The Tri-state is in for a pleasant turn after a few days of brutal winter conditions. Tuesday's bitter blast turned the leftover snow and slush on the roads into ice, but Wednesday will mark the beginning of a warm-up that will be welcomed by everyone.
Before the mercury begins its ascent however, Tri-state residents will have to deal with another morning of single digit wind chills.
The CBS 2 HD Weather Center is calling for temperatures in the mid 30s on Wednesday as a high pressure system will remain nearly overhead.
"Expect mostly sunny skies," said Meteorologist John Elliot. "And even though the late morning and afternoon will feel a lot better than what we've recently dealt with, we'll first have to survive the lingering NW winds."
"When you venture out on Wednesday you might not feel too encouraged," added Elliot. "But just keep in mind that as the day progresses things will begin to fee better and Thursday we'll start to see drastic changes, gearing us up for a spring-like weekend, with temperatures expected to approach 60 degrees."
Wednesday night the winds will shift to the West and lows will hang around the low 20s.
Thursday we can expect the high pressure air system to begin to work its way offshore. The mostly sunny skies will continue. Light winds will shift to the South, bringing in a much warmer air mass to our area.
"The winds from the south will replace the system from the north, and the mercury will reflect rather drastically the change," said Elliot.
Highs on Thursday will be around 40 degrees, but that will just be the beginning of the significant change in temps. Friday will see a chance of showers, but conditions will continue to become milder across the region, with a high near 50.
"The weekend could be spectacular. Although there will be cloud coverage, temps will approach 60 degrees," said Elliot.
