Former Cop Pleads Guilty To Selling Stolen Guns

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) ― Prosecutors said a former NYPD officer pleaded guilty to selling handguns that he stole from a police evidence room.

Hubertus Vannes pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sale of a firearm in Nassau County Court on Long Island, they said.

The Roslyn Heights resident also pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possesion of a controlled substance after he admitted to buying the painkiller Vicodin illegally, prosecutors said.

Vannes agreed to a 5-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors said Vannes admitted to selling the handguns to a man who sold him the painkillers. Vannes was arrested with 76 tablets of Vicodin.

Vannes has been suspended from the police force. The 31-year-old is expected to be sentenced in July.
