Off-Duty Cop Chases Harlem Shooting Suspect
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Authorities are crediting an off-duty New York City policeman with the capture of a gunman who opened fire on a Harlem street corner.
Three people were treated at a hospital after the incident on Wednesday night.
Investigators say 27-year-old Jose Diaz, who became a transit officer three years ago, happened to be driving past the area when he saw the shooter get into a livery cab with a gun still in his hand.
Diaz chased the taxi about a half-mile, then pulled it over with help from other officers in an unmarked car. The suspect surrendered without a struggle.
