Police Shoot NYC Teen, Say He Aimed Gun At Them
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
New York City police have shot and killed a teenager they say pointed a gun at officers and refused orders to drop it.
The incident took place late Saturday on Beach Channel drive in the Rockaways.
Police said four officers in an unmarked car spotted three men leaving a city park after hours and got out of their car to question them.
According to police, one of the men fled, then turned and pointed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol at the officers who were pursuing him.
The police said the man refused repeated orders to drop the weapon and was shot in the torso and legs. He was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. He was identified as 18-year-old Dashawn Vasconcellos.
The NYPD has a uniformed force of at least 37,000 officers.
