McCain, Obama To Appear At Columbia Forum On 9/11

Nominees Will Not Be Participating In Debate, Instead Appearing Separately

Both Campaigns Pledge Not To Run Negative Ads

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Presidential nominees John McCain and Barack Obama will be in New York City on September 11, not only to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks, but to take part in a forum at Columbia University.

The school will host a forum that's part of the ServiceNation Summit, a two-day non-partisan event that will celebrate community service.

The two candidates will appear separately, discussing "their views on the role of citizenship and service in post-9/11 America," according to the summit's Web site.

Both campaigns have pledged not to run any negative ads that day.

Obama is a 1983 graduate of Columbia, and McCain's daughter Meghan graduated from the school in 2007.
