First OTB Parlor Opens In N.J.
VINELAND, N.J. (CBS/AP) ―
New Jersey's first off-track betting facility opened in Vineland Friday.
Favorites is one of 15 off-track betting facilities permitted in the state under a 2002 law. Supporters hope the Garden State sites will compete with off-track betting parlors in New York and Pennsylvania.
Punters can bet on horse races either with tellers or by computer.
The nearly 14,000-square-foot complex is modeled after a sports bar. Food and drinks are available, along with a secluded VIP room.
The state's next off-track betting facility is due to open in Woodbridge this summer.
