Marist: Paterson Hits New Low In NY Governor Poll

ALBANY (AP) ― A new Marist College poll shows Gov. David Paterson with the lowest approval rating of any New York governor in the 30-year history of the poll.

The Democrat dropped 20 percentage points since the January poll and just 26 percent of voters say he's doing a good or excellent job.

Only 30 percent of Democrats statewide say Paterson is doing an above-average job.

Sliding poll numbers are one of the reasons Paterson recently reshuffled his cabinet.

The poll also finds most voters now prefer Republican Rudy Giuliani in a possible 2010 matchup for governor. The former New York City mayor hasn't said he'll run.

The poll released Tuesday surveyed 1,045 registered voters from Feb. 25-26. The poll has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
