Conn. Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Impaired Driver

THOMPSON, Conn. (AP) ― Connecticut state police say a Rhode Island woman was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when she struck and killed an elderly pedestrian with her motorcycle in Thompson.

Troopers say 77-year-old Louisa Solitro of Worcester, Mass., was hit Saturday night while trying to cross East Thompson Road in rain and fog.

She was pronounced dead at Hubbard Hospital in Webster, Mass.

The motorcycle's driver, 38-year-old Julie Sussman of East Providence, R.I., is charged with DUI and second-degree manslaughter while driving under the influence. Police say she was not injured.

State police say Sussman became violent when they talked with her and damaged state property. She's being held on a $50,000 bond and is to be arraigned Monday in Danielson Superior Court.
