The state-of-the-art Prudential Center opens in two weeks and will be home to the New Jersey Devils.
The facility is also set to host a number of events that will draw huge crowds. Stars like Bon Jovi are already on board. He will put on 10 shows in October and November.
Some work is still being completed on the facility, like street lights outside the stadium building are not yet connected.
But some officials are now expressing concern about the arena's safety.
Officials say they believe the arena was built too close to the street and could be susceptible to threats from truck bombs.
"You can't construct an arena and put it right against a street in a post 9/11 world," Newark Police Director Garry McCarthy told the Star Ledger of Newark.
"So, we're playing catch up and taking measure to make sure it's safe."
Construction on the new arena has already cost the city $375 million. It's slated to open on October 25. But with the public's safety on the line, city leaders vow necessary steps will be taken to safeguard those attending concerts or sporting events.
For example, concrete barriers are scheduled to be put up around the arena at the corner of Edison Place and Mulberry Street to protect the facility from cars and trucks and potential terrorist attacks.
In addition to concrete barriers, officials are also talking about partial street closures on event days. Officials say they are confident these measures will keep the facility safe.
