New Poll Suggests Rudy, Hillary May Struggle

ALBANY (CBS/AP) ― They're two New Yorkers whose names are constantly mentioned in the next White House race. But a new poll suggests former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton might have a tough time.

Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion finds Clinton leads the pack of potential Democratic candidates with 33 percent. Runner-up John Edwards was far behind.

But the poll also finds 47 percent of registered voters would "definitely not" consider voting for her.

As for Giuliani, he is running just about even with Sen. John McCain in the GOP contest. And both come out ahead of Clinton.

Pollsters said the stumbling point for Giuliani comes in whether he's acceptable to Republicans who will decide the nomination. When GOP voters were told Giuliani is pro-choice and favors gun control, 47 percent say those positions would be a "major factor" in their vote.
