NEW YORK (CBS) ― Baby, it's cold outside. Tumbling temperatures are a sure sign that our mild winter weather has made an abrupt exit.

It was difficult to get out of bed Wednesday morning with winter temperatures finally arriving in our area. You had to dress the part to stay warm.

The whipping wind is just one of the signs that Old Man Winter has finally arrived after weeks of weather in the 60s and 70s.

Earlier this week, golfers were out hitting balls outside at Chelsea Piers, knowing that the mild temperatures wouldn't last.

Golfer Mark McGarvey said last week, "I think it's unbelievable. Here we are in January, and we're standing outside hitting golf balls in t-shirts."

But not anymore...

Golfer Paul Goffen had another take on Wednesday.

"The cold, I'm hating it. The global warming is working very well for my golf game," he said.

It's been a rather confusing winter for everyone and everything involved. Snow and ice devastated typically warmer climates, while cherry trees in Brooklyn blossomed in January. New York ice rinks couldn't stay frozen.

"I'm excited. I'm excited it's getting cold," said Danielle Townsel, who moved to our area from Florida.

It is cold and could start to get dangerous in the next few days because of wind chills.

Of course, we're not the only ones shivering through tough winter weather. About 400,000 people in the Midwest still have no power and might not have electricity for many more weeks.

One utility official in Oklahoma says service will have to be entirely rebuilt in some areas. The weather is blamed for at least 51 deaths across nine states.

Here's your Tri-State area forecast for the next three days:

Thursday: Wintry mix begins after 9 p.m. Accumulations possible in areas north and west.

Friday: Morning Wintry Mix, but the sun will return in the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s.

Saturday: Arctic shock returns as temperatures plummet. Highs in the low to mid-30s.

Sunday: Cold but sunny with highs in the mid-30s.

Monday: Monday: Watching a developing coastal storm. Highs in the upper 30s.
