Starbucks Eliminating Trans Fats Ahead Of NYC Ban
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ―
Now you can eat those Starbucks apple fritters you love so much -- without the trans fat guilt.
Starbucks reports that it is eliminating trans fats from its menu. That puts the coffee franchise ahead of a new city regulation that bans eateries from using the heart-clogging oils.
Most restaurants will have to rid trans fats from their foods by July. Some foods are exempt until July 2008.
Starbucks is also getting rid of trans fats at stores in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston.
Eliminating the trans fats from its menus does not make Starbucks' pastries healthy. A raspberry scone has 29 grams of fat, for instance. The aforementioned apple fritter has 16 grams of fat.
