Caught On Video: Stray Bullet From Bell Shooting

by Scott Weinberger
NEW YORK (CBS) ― CBS 2 acquired amazing surveillance video from the night New York City Police officers fired 50 shots at Sean Bell, killing him just hours before his wedding.

The surveillance video is from inside the AirTrain station just above the Queens street where a barrage of police gunfire killed Bell and wounded two of his friends.

It does not show that shooting, but it does show an errant bullet flying into the station, nearly striking innocent bystanders.

Watch closely as the man in black is walking toward the camera. The bullet smashes the window, the man scrambles for cover, while a uniformed TSA agent appears stunned.

From another angle, two on-duty uniformed Port Authority Police officers are also seen scrambling. One falls in his attempt to find cover.

All of the passengers were unaware that the bullet was one of 50 rounds fired at Bell and his friends by five undercover New York City Police officers.

The video clearly shows just how wild the scene was. That bullet could have injured an innocent person or taken another life.

The elevated train station is located half a block from where the officers fired their weapons.

The man who was closest to being hit by the bullet was not injured. But the Port Authority Police officer who is seen falling in the video suffered minor injuries.
