Funeral Held For Teen Slain At Trenton Block Party
TRENTON (CBS) ―
Hundreds crowded into a Trenton church Saturday for the funeral of a 13-year-old girl killed in a drive-by shooting at a block party last weekend.
Authorities said Tamrah Leonard was slain Sunday in what's believed to be a gang-related shooting. Mayor Douglas Palmer was among several speakers at her funeral who expressed frustration over the continued violence plaguing the state capital.
At least 20 shots were fired from an automatic gun into the crowd of about 100 people, according to police, and Leonard was the only person hit. And it's still unclear who if anyone was the intended target of the shooting.
No arrests have been made, and authorities say fear of retribution is keeping witnesses from coming forward.
The party had been billed as an event meant to help stop the violence in the city's North Ward.
As of the last census, Trenton had a population of over 85,000.
