Rt. 440 Southbound Reopens After Tanker Fire
PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) ―
New Jersey State Police say a fire that started on a Perth Amboy highway when an empty tanker truck crashed into a road construction vehicle and overturned has been brought under control.
State Police Capt. Al Della Fave said the tanker struck the back of a New Jersey Department of Transportation construction truck on Route 440 northbound around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
New Jersey Department of Transportation spokeswoman Erin Phalon said the northbound lanes of the road, which lead to the Outerbridge Crossing to Staten Island, were expected to remain closed through the Monday evening rush hour.
Southbound lanes were reopened about an hour after the accident.
Della Fave said one Transportation Department worker was injured, but that the injuries were not life-threatening.
