Officials: Tenafly Students Got Final Exams Early
TENAFLY, N.J. (CBS) ―
Officials at Tenafly High School said a number of students were able to electronically get a hold of final exams before test dates, and many students said they're appalled.
"I think that what they did is horrible. I think that technology shouldn't be exploited like that," said junior Dave Silberman.
"I think it's a disrespect to everyone because it makes us all look like a bad school, which we aren't, and like most here studied," said freshman Isabel Pakzad.
School officials said new exams were written up the minute the breach was discovered but both the superintendent's office and police were investigating, as the school's technology department reviews computer files.
In a letter sent home to parents on June 19, officials said, "We have been able to identify a number of students responsible for planning and carrying out the plans to obtain the final exams."
They also said students, parents and staff members helped them catch the cheaters.
While their names have not been released, many students claim to know who they are.
"I think that they're so smart to be in honors class and then to have to go and get the final off the computer, I could never do that," said senior Samantha Barbers.
The superintendent's office said it is taking this very seriously, and that once the investigation is complete, the students responsible for obtaining the exams will face tough consequences.
