It's that time of the year again, when huge floats, wild costumes and marching bands have the power to stir up a crowd and kick off the holiday spirit.
"It is awesome! I love it!" said Monica Randels of Maryland.
And while the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade may have taken a few new twists and turns as it headed downtown, the crowd never lost its energy and enthusiasm.
Nor is the meaning of this Thanksgiving holiday lost on military wife Candi Williams of Pennsylvania. "I'm just thankful that my husband is not in Iraq this year and he's home."
Those heartfelt feelings of thankfulness and gratitude were not limited to the adult crowd. When asked what they're most thankful for, it's always good to hear children tell you, as Alexis Denfurd said, "I'm thankful for my family, and that I could be here today."
The crowd was on hand for the first float, Spiderman, and stuck around for the last float, Santa Claus.
Now it's going to be a journey back home.
Officials estimated that three million spectators lined to streets to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade.
