FDNY Rescues Man Who Fell Into Tribeca Cellar
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
A lucky gambler survives a frightening fall in Tribeca.
Vincent Riggio was taking his usual walk from an OTB Branch when he fell through the metal cellar doors of the clothing store on Murray Street. He landed nearly 30 feet inside.
Firefighters had to use their truck as part of the rescue operation.
"They hooked a pulley system up to it and and hoisted the person out of the hole. Remarkably he only had minor injuries," said FDNY Chief John Bley.
The 59-year-old businessman was pulled to safety within 15 minutes, suffering only cuts and bruises to his leg.
He was treated at St. Vincent's Hospital.
