Driver Survives Hanna Knocking Tree Onto Car

BROOKLYN (CBS) ― High winds from Tropical Storm Hanna toppled trees in Brooklyn. One fell on the Belt Parkway, halting traffic in Sheepshead Bay.

A northern pine came crashing down onto the Parkway around 5 p.m. Saturday. The FDNY turned out with chains and chainsaws to clear the tree from the road.

On its way down, the tree crashed onto a car driving by. The driver was driving slowly because of the rain. He was also in the far left lane, so he could not turn away.

The vehicle was nearly destroyed, and the driver said he felt lucky to be alive.

"I'm driving, and the tree just fell. I've seen it coming at me, but there was no way I could stop... Thank God I'm alive," said Louie Seif.
