Power Outages Affect Thousands On L.I.

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Thousands of residents on Long Island were without power after Tropical Storm Hanna moved on from our area.

At the height of the storm, power outages affected 25,000. Babylon and Huntington were the areas worst hit.

Trees branches snapped, falling on power lines. One power problem was caused by a transformer that blew.

"We saw the whole thing blow up from our window. Sparks flying and every time the lights came on it would blow up again, the transformer down the block," one resident said.

Officials also advised beach-goers to be cautious Sunday, and have issued a high surf advisory.
