Undecideds Say Debate May Ultimately Tell Tale

Hofstra University Students Tell CBS 2 HD Both Candidates Need To Put Up Or Shut Up If They Want Votes

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Wednesday night's final debate is one more chance to reach the ever dwindling pool of undecided voters. CBS 2 HD spoke to some Hofstra University students who say they still haven't made up their minds.

Signs on Hofstra's campus point in both directions.

Yet just three weeks away from decision day, some students like Doreen Dardashtian are still undecided.

"I was leaning towards, uh, I was gonna say Obama. But I don't know. I do like McCain," Dardashtian said.

Law student Jessica Horowitz said her support seems to change every day.

"Right now I'm complete undecided," Horowitz said. "I think that both candidates have a lot to offer. They both have positives and negatives. I'm just really unsure who I think who will be the best president for our country.

"[McCain] is an American hero and with us being in Iraq right now and Afghanistan that it's good to have somebody that's been out in the war," Horowitz added. "I love a lot of Sen. Obama's ideas, especially some of his ideas with national service. If students would give a hundred hours of community service then they'd receive money for college."

Horowitz said her support is riding on Wednesday night's debate, which she won the opportunity to watch inside Hofstra Arena.

She said, "their presence on the stage and if somebody could really just sway me one way or another," will help determine who she ultimately chooses, adding, "and I feel that what they're saying isn't just fluff, and it's something that could actually happen when they take over as president."
