Runaway Limo Owner Furious Over Westchester Chase

Martin Rodriguez Unable To Salvage $93,000 Vehicle

SLIDESHOW OF THE DAY: Celebrities' Real Names Revealed

by Tony Aiello
BEDFORD, N.Y. (CBS) ― The owner of the limousine involved in a dramatic chase in northern Westchester County said he got goose bumps watching the video for the first time.

"Man, that's tough to watch," Martin Rodriguez said Friday after viewing the exclusive video on wcbstv.com.

The dramatic chase involving the 2005 stretch limo took place last April. The video was made available to CBS 2 after court proceedings involving the driver finally wrapped up. A "dashboard camera" in a New York State Police cruiser recorded the startling images.

The tape shows the limo roaring along on I-684 at speeds topping 120 mph. After the transmission blows, the limo goes into reverse, at speeds of 40 mph, at times traveling backward in the wrong lane on local roads.

The chase ended when the limo backed into a cul de sac and hit a tree.

Police charged the driver, 27-year-old Dane Christian, with many traffic violations.

Rodriguez said Christian borrowed the car from his business partner, on the pretext of showing it to a client.

"The people that he put in jeopardy ... if he would have had an accident, killed somebody," Rodriguez said when asked for his reaction to the tape.

Rodriguez said the limo cost $93,000. He lost the car when he couldn't make the payments after the vehicle was extensively damaged in the chase and crash.

"It's upsetting, I have a life and a family to take care of," Rodriguez said. "This is how I was thinking I'd make money to support my family."
