Storm Watch: Airports Try To Get Back On Schedule

QUEENS (CBS) ― Heavy snow, ice, and freezing rain all took their tolls on area airports, leading to over 1,000 flight cancellations between LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark airports and plenty of stranded travelers.

"It's a horrible delay. I was supposed to take a 9:45 flight out. It was cancelled just as I got here. I made a few calls en route. It was still cancelled. And then when I got here, they don't have anything available," one passenger said.

"I am good i have my snacks i have my water, cell phone, some things to read," another traveler said.

Most took it in stride, knowing there was no place to go.

With flight delays across the country, one traveler said it won't change how she looks back on her trip to New York.

"It's been a pleasure let me tell you why. I really think your city is very friendly and even as bad as it's been, it's been an OK experience and we think New York is really good," Barbara Pickett said.

With good news about flight schedules on the horizon, many travelers will soon be able to get home to share their stories about flight delays.

"The taxiways and runways are in great condition. The problem is the airlines do have to de-ice," an airport worker said.

And with full carriers trying to book their flights, it will be difficult to squeeze the people on the planes. They hope to have everything under control by the end of Saturday into early Sunday.
