Imagine waking up and seeing a king size snake slithering across the floor in your home.
It happened Tuesday morning in the Bronx, and one family has the terrifying pictures to prove it.
As unwanted visitors go this one is tough to beat -- a 3-and-a-half foot long yellow rat snake.
It somehow slithered into the Rodriguez family's fourth-floor apartment on Gerard Avenue in Mott Haven.
"I started screaming! I couldn't think about nothing," daughter Nancy Rodriguez said.
The 10-year-old took a picture of the snake -- as it tried to crawl up a wall behind a table.
Through a translator, her mother, Maria Dominguez, said her son, Hugo, spotted the snake around 8 a.m.
"He saw the snake first, got real scared, called una culebra! And went running," Dominguez said.
"It feels scary to come home, back. I don't really want to come in," Rodriguez added.
The family called police and Nancy took a picture of a cop as he responded to the unusual call for help.
Eventually, a couple of cops were able to corner the slippery suspect, pick it up with a broom, and carry it away.
The family thinks the snake entered the apartment through a hole in the wall -- tempted by a rat trap on the floor.
Rat snakes -- as you might have guessed -- like to eat rodents.
But like many home invaders, this one is in custody -- at New York City Animal Control.
Animal Control said the non-venomous snake will be turned over to a reptile rescue group, to live at an animal sanctuary.
