Drinking water isn't the only way to hydrate ourselves in the summer. After applying so much make up every week because of work, my eyes are not happy campers. I never underestimate using a good hydrating eye cream.
I found Aubrey (pictured above applying my friend Christie's make up) at the Spring Street fresh store and not only did he also lighten my make up load but he told me something I've never heard offered in spa services. Instead of the hard sell for products after a facial, fresh lets you choose the amount of product that equals the value of the facial you just purchased. Insane. And considering how light I felt after my make up was applied, I'm so there.

Since Opening Day this year I've been saying I need to see a game before Yankee stadium is demolished. I'm running out of time! It's not like I've never joined the other 57,000 fans at time watching games in the stadium before… but it's the fact that the games will be played elsewhere, after all those years, that makes me want to go one last time at the end of this month.
The "check engine" light came on the other day while driving to Long Island. I may watch Top Gear (yes, I continue to surprise everyone on a daily basis) but I have close to no idea what is going on under the hood of a car. So I picked up CarMD -- a handheld electronic device that keeps your car running cleaner and more efficiently by catching problems with your emissions system. Color coded LED lights provide an indication as to whether systems are running normally. Then you plug the tester in your computer to download reports from their site to identify the most likely problem and how it can be corrected. It's now my way to have peace of mind before any of my road trips.
I've been disappointed by countless waffles that sounded delicious in print but were a letdown when they arrived. While I don't pass on breakfast, I always find myself skipping over any waffle offering on a menu.

I never thought the best waffle I'd have in Manhattan would be from a truck. But it's true. The wafels & dinges truck parked on 46th Street between 5th and 6th on the South Side of the street is a few feet from a public space so you can sit while you eat your wafel of massive deliciousness. Two varieties are offered – the Brussels being my choice. It was the same variety that came to New York in1964 for the World's Fair. And now in 2008, the wafels & dinges wafel hotline number has a permanent place in my cell phone.
When you open your mailbox usually only bills are there to greet you. Sometimes you only find marketing materials. But you know it's pretty bad when you open your mailbox and find a pair of marketing materials acting like a little angel and a little devil sitting on your shoulder.
Decisions, decisions.
The roadside fruit and vegetable farm stands that set up shop on the sides of gridlocked Route 27 are pretty much the only thing that will help you keep your sanity driving back from Montauk/The Hamptons. Escape being stuck behind a Jitney and pick up snacks for the long ride home.
You'll thank me.
I'm not really certain why we need a Lexus taxi on the streets of New York but there must be a need. At least it's a hybrid. Speaking of hybrid taxis, there has been a lot of talk about New York City taxis being required to switch their fleets to hybrid vehicles.
Wondering about black cars since they are just as common on the streets of Manhattan as taxis? Although they are not going to be required to switch to hybrids, Robert Mackasek, CEO of Long Island City headquartered Valera Global (the 14th largest chauffeured fleet in the United States!) rejected the idea of switching the fleet to hybrid vehicles.
This rejection came as the result of concerns that hybrid vehicles, although better for the environment, pose new health risks to individuals operating them. Mackasek also considered the fact that health risks are amplified in chauffeurs who spend up to 14 hours a day operating hybrids while electro-magnetic fields are emitted.
As hot as it is in the city, the dog days of summer technically end today. We can all thank the year of Homeric Greek I took in high school for that random bit of knowledge.
My sweet tooth still plans to act like it is hotter than ever in the city, continuing to find any excuse to make me walk over to
Eli's
for a scoop of apple pie a la mode. Yum. If ice cream isn't your thing, Ciao Bella, red mango, pinkberry, Tasti-D-Lite, Baskin Robbins and Haagen Dazs have all of the gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt and other category frozen treat lovers covered for the rest of the Summer.
