Baby Tests Positive For Multiple Drugs In Texas

 Slideshow: Stars Killed By Drugs

RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (CBS) ― An 8-month-old baby boy is hospitalized after testing positive for drugs; child protective services and Richland Hills police are investigating.

The child was listed in stable condition Friday afternoon.

Detectives say they are familiar with little Logan's mother, 21-year-old Whitney Walker, and the baby's grandmother, Janna Beau. While the two women have faced unrelated charges before – officials from Child Protective Services say they have never been called to the home.

Police say Logan tested positive for significant amounts of amphetamine, methamphetamine, some nicotine and caffeine. Officials at Cook Children's Hospital say the drugs were either stuffed in the child's mouth or mixed in with food or formula.

According to reports, the mother said she left the boy at the house in the 3100 block of Rufe Snow about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

She told police when she picked up the infant about 2 p.m., he was "acting unusual and was very slow in responding" to her, police said in a news release.

Beau explained that the child seemed to be getting sick and had a stuffy nose and irritated eyes. "I had put some Vicks on him and I think he got it in his eyes."

Police searched the house with drug dogs Thursday night and the animals alerted in three areas, but they didn't find any illegal drugs.

"At first I thought maybe someone was using meth around the baby and it fell into the crib or something. Doctor's [are] saying it was a significant amount so we don't, at this point, believe it was accidental," said Det. Tye Bell, Richland Hills Police Department.

Under an emergency order, CPS also removed a 20-month-old girl from Walker's custody.
