Terabyte Of Child Porn Found In Upscale N.J. Home
Hidden Videos Of Suspect's Stepdaughter, Her Friends Using Bathroom Also Discovered
HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBS) ―
A 50-year-old father who lived with his family in an upscale Hackensack neighborhood was arrested after police discovered more than a terabyte -- one thousand gigabytes -- of child pornography that included hidden videos of his own stepdaughter and her friends using the bathroom.
The suspect, Graham Hurley, was arrested Friday and charged with multiple child pornography related charges. He remains on suicide watch with Bergen County police after investigators raided his house and discovered what they call one of the largest collections of child pornography in memory. There they say they found hundreds of thousands of photographs of little girls.
"Children engaged in sexual acts with other children, with adults and even with animals -- the bestiality pictures," said Det. Sgt. Andrew Donofrio of the Bergen Co. Prosecutor's Office.
Police say the door to Hurley's office had a lock controlled with a fingerprint reader. Inside were several hard drives filled with so many pornographic images, they filled up 20 computers worth of storage space.
They also say Hurley wired a bathroom with surveillance cameras buried inside an air purifier, an a freshener, and a portable stereo, where he videotaped his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her friends.
"There are videos he made of the shower, girls who stayed over and some of them using the bathroom facilities as well," said Hackensack Police Chief Ken Zisa.
CBS 2's Andrew Kirtzman says Hurley lived with his family on a gorgeous New Jersey street that blended in with the rest of the peaceful neighborhood. As is usual in cases like these, none of his neighbors had any idea that something here was amiss."
"The family was never there together, someone was always coming and going, you really didn't know," said Sherry Eyer, who lives on Hurley's street.
Why do cases like these keep springing up? Police insist that, like murder and rape, child porn is a menace that can never be eliminated.
"I think child predators have always been there, I think they will always be there," said Donofrio.
Police have also accused Hurley of engaging in criminal sexual contact with his stepdaughter. He's facing a total of 184 years in prison.
