Classical Music Being Used To Battle Crime

Here's one way to crack down on crime, use classical music for punishment. Or so says the city attorney's office in Sacramento, Calif.

The attorney's office says one store there is a magnet for crime and they may have a simple solution. By turning the music up, they hope they can keep criminals away and help keep the store open. Beethoven and beer? A creative classical creation.

The business is a market called "Prit Market and Liquor." The owner, Jack Patel, has been in business for 20 years and intends to stay that way.

Though the market is not in the best neighborhood, police have responded to hundreds of calls here in the past few years. The attorney's office is forcing him to install better lighting, a sound system playing classical music, and to call the cops when people hang out too long.

They city attorney's office says they're not trying to close the business, just clean up the area.

In talking to the owner and his son, they say it will probably take about two weeks to install the speakers and make it start playing.
