Escaped Cow Walks 5 Miles, Slams Into Cruiser

A Massachusetts police officer followed a wandering cow along a local highway.

Massachusetts police received quite a shock early Sunday morning when a 2,000 pound Scottish cow was spotted strolling along a local highway, reports WBZ, the CBS station in Boston.
According to the Upton Police Chief Thomas Stockwell, the cow escaped from a local farm around 1 a.m. and was on the loose for about five hours. Police tailed the animal for most of its journey.
"We just stayed with it, stayed behind it ... not trying to frighten it, but keeping the blue lights on to warn the traffic coming from the opposite direction there was a road hazard - a very large one," said Stockwell.
A caretaker had been looking after the massive cow for a neighbor, who was away on vacation when the animal escaped. "Up through the corner just walked out. I can't believe she made it as far as she did."
She covered about five miles. While on her journey, she went head-on with a police cruiser, walked into traffic and even took the rope-wielding caretaker for a ride. "I grabbed onto the rope and got dragged up the street a little ways."
The entire incident was recorded by a police cruiser's dashboard camera.
And finally, the cow gave in.
"It continued on for a couple of more miles until it got very tired and it decided it was time to go home and it walked onto the trailer and back to Grafton," said Stockwell.
No one was injured during the incident, but the cow is a little stiff after its ambitious all-night walk.
