In downtown Denver, there's a convention like no other. It's theĀ
Rocky Mountain Fur Con - men and women who like to dress up in animal costumes.
The costumes are typically inspired by cartoons, animals, anime and art.
"It's fun to pretend to be a cat, to be completely honest. Mine's a jaguar," Furry Jennifer Westfall said.
"You can be more yourself in your suit without caring what you look like or what other people are going to think about you," a Furry called "Huskey Pup" said.
Recent TV shows and news reports have given Furries a bad reputation as a sexual group. They say that's not the case and their conventions are rated PG.
Last month a Fort Collins mother who was a Furry was arrested for having sex with a 16-year-old. Richael Michels faces charges of sexual assault on a child.
"We're not all weird, we're not all crazy, we're not creepy, and we're not stalkers. We're not anything like that - that the outside world likes to think we are," Huskey Pup said.
The Furry convention held a parade.
Proceeds from the Fur Con will be donated to the Denver Zoo.
