A man stumbled onto the subway tracks just as a train came rumbling into the station. He somehow managed to survive, CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City reports.
Abdul Haque is in pain and now must use a cane to get around his Lower East Side apartment, but after falling off a subway platform and staring down an oncoming subway train while laying on the tracks, the mere fact he's still alive to share his amazing story is nothing short of a miracle.
"He defied death. He cheated death. He looked it in the face -- and then that was it. Wow," son Hafiz Haque said.
The 55-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant's English isn't perfect, but the shocking details of his story are crystal clear. On the afternoon of May 27, Abdul says he was standing on a subway platform on his way to work when he suddenly lost his footing.
"The God
God saved me," Abdul said.
Abdul still can't explain exactly how or why he fell off the platform. But he says he distinctly remembers being sprawled across the tracks, with an uptown F train approaching in the distance. Clearly, his survival instincts took over, because he managed to lodge himself into the open space underneath the platform -- with only moments to spare.
"I see the train. What? Why train?" Abdul said.
Abdul says he then crawled out from the open space under the train, and ran across the tracks. And with the aid of a Good Samaritan climbed onto the north platform. He took a seat on a bench and watched as his rescuers searched for him.
But one question still remains unanswered. Why did Abdul fall?
"Head MRI, chest MRI, and a knee
all nothing. Everything is normal, but why did I fall down the train?" Abdul wondered.
Doctors speculate Abdul suffered some kind of dizzy spell before tumbling off the platform.
And while his family is still shocked, Abdul is absolutely certain a higher power pulled him out of harm's way.
