Police in Boulder say a fight between a young couple led to a disturbing case of animal abuse, reports CBS station KCNC-TV in Denver.

Police arrested Bryan Beck and his girlfriend Abby Toll after Toll told police she taped her boyfriend's 8-month-old puppy to a refrigerator.

The puppy, a Shiba Inu named Rex, is now under the care of the Boulder Valley Humane Society. Toll is facing felony animal cruelty charges.

Toll told police she was upset with her boyfriend after the dog had bitten her and that she wanted to teach the dog a lesson.
