Sex Offender Wins $10 Million In Mass. Lottery

BOSTON (CBS) ― Last month, a convicted bank robber in Massachusetts was allowed to keep $1 million he won on a scratch ticket, even though playing the lottery was a parole violation.

Whitey Bulger once hit the lottery for nearly $2 million.

Yes, there was outrage but no legal reason to deny the accused mobster the dough, until it was learned he paid the real winner for a share.

Now, Massachusetts taxpayers may be upset to hear that a level 3 sex offender hit the jackpot for $10 million, and it looks like he'll keep it all, reports CBS station WBZ-TV in Boston.

Uxbridge resident Daniel Snay, 56, scratched his way to the prize on the state lottery's Billion Dollar Blockbuster card.

News reports described him as a trucker and father of five who would use the money for his kids' education.

Later it was learned Snay is a level 3 sex offender, considered the most dangerous kind with a high risk to re-offend.

He has an extensive criminal background dating back to the '70s including multiple counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Lottery officials said they were unaware of Snay's record but would not revoke his prize.

However, state police in Connecticut, where Snay used to live, are investigating whether he failed to register his new address with authorities.

He was arrested in Uxbridge, Mass., in 2004 for failing to register as a sex offender there.

If Snay is not in compliance he could face felony charges.

It's not clear whether that would have an impact on his earnings.
