Shot With An Arrow: Victim Talks To CBS 2 HD

50-Year-Old Said She Was Stunned After Looking Down And Seeing What Was Sticking Out Of Her Stomach

NEW YORK (CBS) ― She thought she was hit by a baseball, but ended up getting the shock of her life.

From her hospital bed on Monday night, CBS 2 HD heard from the woman who was shot with an arrow in of all places, Riverdale, over the weekend.

The first thing that strikes you when you meet Denise Delgado-Brown is her graciousness. After all, the woman is still in some pain. Although her sense of humor is intact, the next thing that strikes you almost immediately is you're talking to someone who just got hit by an arrow.

"I was shocked. I just kept looking down going this can't be happening. I said … 'I got an arrow …' Who would've thought that someone would do that?" Delgado-Brown said.

Delgado-Brown is recovering at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx -- recovering from being shot yesterday, with, of all things, an arrow.

"I was gonna touch it and I was gonna pull it out at first but it was stuck really deep in my chest. So I didn't do anything," Delgado-Brown said.

The 50-year-old woman was shot Sunday afternoon in the affluent section of the Bronx as she was dropping off some friends at a nursing home. NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said police believe, from the trajectory and the way the arrow was pointing, the shooting was an accident. He said officers are focusing on a nearby park area.

"There's a wooded area that's close by, so that's the investigation. We're not ruling anything out, but that's what we believe at this time," Kelly said.

"I just kept asking people … did you see anything or anybody? Why would somebody do this?" Delgado-Brown said.

Delgado-Brown said faith is the only reason why she's still here. Apparently no other vital organs were hit. The doctors said the surgery that was done on Sunday to repair the damage to her stomach may be all she needs.

Somebody was looking out.
