Boston police will be testing out a popular online blog tool this weekend to help them track crime and illegal drinking at Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston, CBS station WBZ-TV reports.
The Boston Globe is reporting that police are setting up a Twitter page where officers can relay important information to users and users can post tips for police.
Police hope to eventually use Twitter during festivals and large-scale events, the paper reports. The St. Patrick's Day parade will be the first test.
In addition to Twitter, police are also planning to hand out fines for public drinking, the Boston Herald reports.
State Sen. Jack Hart told the paper that there will be zero tolerance for public drinking this year.
Over the past couple of years, lots of college kids have joined the parade, and residents have become concerned. Some say the parade is more like Mardi Grads and less like a family-friendly event.
In the past, police have either confiscated alcohol or made people take it indoors, but now officers will be handing out $200 fines.
