There was a terrifying scene during the middle of Monday evening dinner after a van slammed into a restaurant in Gillette, N.J.
There was chaos outside and inside Stewart's restaurant. A van equipped for a disabled driver came crashing through the wall just before dinnertime.
Owner Tom Gunning said a man and his two young children were the only customers inside at the time.
"I was running around, the kids were crying and he was holding them trying to calm the down," Gunning said.
Gunning told CBS 2 HD the van plowed directly into the booth the family was sitting in, knocking them across the restaurant.
"They were shaken up but okay thank God," Gunning said.
The driver of the van was taken to the hospital, but was walking around just after the accident.
"He was full throttle yelling 'I had no brakes, no control,'" Gunning said.
Police officers are still investigating why the driver lost control. They said they were unclear whether any charges will be filed.
As of late Monday night there was no word on the condition of the driver.
