CAT IN A SAT: Feline Gets Stuck In CBS 2 Van Roof

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBS) ― You've heard of "news hounds," well, here's the tale of the news cat!

One of CBS 2's live trucks was like catnip to a freezing feline on Wednesday. The animal got the ride of its life when our crew was driving to an assignment.

Driving on the parkway, motorists were honking and waving at CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan, who waved back. That's when they called out for us to pull over and tell us that a cat was stuck on our roof!

At first we thought it was an April Fool's joke, but we couldn't believe our eyes. Sure enough, meowing and being friendly while wedged under the satellite dish was a fluffy black and white furry feline.

It refused to budge. We ran inside Nassau County Police headquarters where a news conference was about to begin and called out for help.

"When you guys came in to our press conference we thought it was an April Fool's joke, so we didn't take it seriously at first. But then all of a sudden you were insistent that there was a cat stuck in the truck so we immediately called our emergency service responders," said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone.

Soon a crowd began to gather. Reporters began taking pictures as the emergency services unit quickly responded, hoping the feral cat was not in distress. The officers believe the kitty climbed up on the roof seeking warmth.

Finally, after dismantling a panel on the satellite dish, the cat was freed. And CBS radio reporter Sophia Hall even offered to take it home.

"I am a cat lover, I have to bring him home," she said. "I already have two others at home. I couldn't pass up this opportunity!"

The cat appears to be in good health. A veterinarian said it's unlikely the animal was hurt while traveling atop our van.
